9 of South London's Best Pub Quizzes

The Ivy House, Nunhead

Wednesdays, 8pm

With regularly changing hosts, this is a great quiz to check out if you’re looking for something different. The first Wednesday of the month is the best evening to head down, when it’s hosted by Peter Scott-Presland who combines topical rounds with the more obscure – anything from boats to dogs – and all the action unfolds on a scoresheet projected on the screen. Tense stuff. And, if you’re an aspiring quiz master, you can try your hand at hosting there for a £20 bar tab. Who says punters always have to win?

The Rosendale, West Dulwich

Mondays, 8pm

This fast-paced quiz, based over two main rounds of 20 plus music and bonus rounds, is peppered with picture puzzles and cryptic clues to solve throughout. The main questions include everything from general knowledge and current affairs, to 'guess the film' clips – but nothing too taxing or niche, meaning you’ll leave feeling like you’ve achieved something for a Monday! Entry is £2 each with a top prize of £50 cash plus free drinks up for grabs between rounds.

The Joiners Arms, Camberwell

Wednesdays, 9pm

One of Camberwell’s finest pubs presents one of South London’s top quizzes for only £1 per entrant. Five rounds of medium-difficulty questions - always including a music round - meaning that nobody should feel like a spare quiz part. The atmosphere is relaxed and easy-going in this traditional boozer. Between rounds, they do ‘head or tails’ which involves everyone taking part in the quiz and goes down until the final elimination with a round of shots for the winning team.

The Fox and Firkin, Lewisham

Mondays, 8pm

A firm South London Club favourite, this venue doesn’t just do great live music. On Mondays, quizmaster Corrie hosts an action packed quiz which is £2 to enter. There’s various prizes on offer including a jackpot and booze. Not only do they do 2-4-1 pizza from 7-9pm but if you’re after something else, South London Club Card holders receive 10% off the rest of the menu.

The Herne Tavern, East Dulwich

Sundays, 7pm

Sunday nights were made for quizzing and there’s not many better pubs south of the river than The Herne to get quizzical at the end of the weekend. With cash prizes – sometimes as high as £400 – your £2 entry fee could be well worth it. The quiz includes picture, music and themed rounds – anything from dragons to football so all specialists could be required!

The Chandos, Honor Oak Park/Forest Hill

Sundays, 7pm

Whether this pub is in Honor Oak Park or Forest Hill could easily be a quiz question, but let’s not waste brain space on that conundrum and instead get ready for 50 questions covering everything from general knowledge to recent news. The quiz ends with a tie breaker for all non-winners to be in with a chance to win a bottle of wine. Given that the quiz is free and they also offer some of the finest pizzas around, why you wouldn’t go to this quiz is perhaps the biggest question.

The Old Frizzle, Wimbledon

Sundays, 8pm

The weekly big Frizzle Quizzle happens every Sunday night at this spacious South West London pub. With prizes for first, second and third place, it’s well worth checking out - although beware that there are plenty of regulars at this quiz thirsty for more than just a craft beer. Get down early and combine some brain training with a tasty Sunday roast which includes a Swingers Roast for two – a bit of everything if you just can’t decide what you want. Indecision however won’t be welcome at the quiz!

Antelope, Tooting

Mondays, 8pm

Set in the original Antic pub, this is one of the best on offer in South West London and it’s free to enter, hurrah! With a £50 bar tab for first place, £25 bar tab for second place and even a bottle of wine for the second to last place, there’s plenty of prizes to go round and the tasty grub on offer means even more reason to get quizzical.

The Roundhouse, Wandsworth

Mondays, 8pm

The prospect of a £100 bar tab is enough to get anyone through a dull Monday but it might not put you in good stead for the rest of the week! There’s also a second place prize of a bottle of wine and a Play Your Cards Right bonus round with a rollover jackpot, not to mention free drinks! Can’t really say fairer than that for £2 at the start of the week.
